How Chiropractic Care Addresses Neck and Back Pain

Did you know that one of the most common reasons for back and neck pain is subluxation? This is a term used to describe any sort of misalignment in the bones (vertebrae) of the spine.

The bones might become misaligned due to a problem in one or more of the discs, the soft and spongy material that pads the spaces between the bones and allows our spines to be more supple and flexible.

When something occurs to a disc (including rupture, herniation or bulging), it can cause the disc to stiffen and even degrade, forcing the bones out of alignment.

The result of any misalignment between the bones in the neck or back (spine) is pressure on the nerves. This causes a chain reaction of events that includes our moving differently, and usually moving less. This leads to changes in everything from the ways we use our arms, legs and all other parts of the body to creating ongoing muscle spasms, headache and much more.

Diagnosis and Treatment

Naturally, if you have any sort of sudden or chronic neck and back pain, the first thing to do is visit your chiropractor for a full assessment of the situation. It could be that you have harmed a tendon or muscle around the neck or back, and not the spine itself. It could be that you do have a problem with the area, including something like arthritis or even trauma from a fall or accident.

Only once your range of motion and the overall condition of the spine are assessed can the proper plan for treatment be created.

We emphasize nonsurgical interventions such as spinal adjustments and manipulations, massage, exercise and even changes to the diet that can help to overcome many of the issues that lead to back or neck pain and/or subluxation.
